FAQ | Septic, Grease Trap & Drain Questions — Gridwater Austin TX

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Answers to common questions about our services.

SEPTIC TANK

How often should I pump my septic tank?

Most residential tanks should be pumped every 3-5 years, depending on household size, tank size, and usage. If you're not sure when your tank was last serviced, it's a good idea to schedule an inspection.

How do I know if my septic tank needs pumping?

Common signs include slow drains throughout the house, gurgling toilets, sewage smell in the yard or inside, and standing water near the tank or drain field. If you notice any of these, call us.

Do you service aerobic septic systems?

Yes. Aerobic systems are common in the Austin and Hill Country area, and we're experienced with all types — including routine maintenance, inspections, and component servicing.

I just bought a home with a septic tank. What should I do?

Start with an inspection and pump-out. This gives you a clean baseline and helps identify any issues early. We recommend this for every new homeowner on septic.

How long does septic pumping take?

Most residential pump-outs take about 30-60 minutes, depending on tank size, access, and condition.

GREASE TRAP

How often does my grease trap need cleaning?

The City of Austin requires cleaning when the trap reaches 25% capacity, or at minimum every 90 days. Your actual schedule depends on kitchen volume — high-output kitchens may need monthly service.

What happens if I don't keep up with grease trap cleaning?

You risk backups into your kitchen, drain line blockages, foul odors, and regulatory violations. The City of Austin can issue fines and even order temporary closure for non-compliance.

Do you provide cleaning records?

Yes. We provide documentation for every service visit, so you always have records ready for inspections.

DRAIN CLEANING & JETTING

What is hydro jetting?

Hydro jetting uses high-pressure water to clear buildup, grease, roots, and scale from sewer and drain lines. It's more effective than snaking for stubborn or recurring clogs.

Will jetting damage my pipes?

When performed by experienced operators, no. We assess the condition of your lines before jetting to ensure it's the right approach.

Do you offer camera inspections?

Yes. We can run a sewer camera before and after service to diagnose the problem and confirm it's been resolved.
